Amnesty International: Lack of justice over war crimes fuels spiraling violence in the Central African Republic

In Nord-Ubangi province, almost 10,000 CAR refugees (new arrivals and out-of-camp) received relief items.

National Commission for Refugees (CNR) and UNHCR estimated that around 64,000 new refugees arrived in DRC between mid-May and August 2017.

Local authorities reported tens of thousands new arrivals in areas of difficult access.

Almost 5,000 refugees newly arrived in Bondo territory (Bas-Uele province) received relief items.

The Congolese authorities ended the prima facies recognition for CAR refugees since July 2015. Following UNHCR’s advocacy, an accelerated RSD process has been set up for CAR refugees.

On 9 September the Eligibility Commission processed 642 cases of asylum seekers. On those, 632 CAR individuals were granted refugee status in the Republic of Congo.

To date UNHCR received a total of 650 voluntary repatriation requests from CAR refugees. The dire economic condition in Republic of Congo seems to be the main reason of these repatriation requests.
