On the 5th of January 2016 UNHCR and The Ministry of Health (MOH) in Egypt signed an agreement today on enhancing access of Persons of Concern to UNHCR to public primary health care and referral curative care services. The agreement between UNHCR and The Ministry of Health in Egypt aims at providing an extensive access to all refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Egypt to primary health care and public hospitals in the areas of high concentration of refugees.

On the 17th of February, UNHCR Egypt health team accompanied by Dr. Magdy Hegazy, the Ministry of Health First Undersecretary in Alexandria, visited two public hospitals, Ras el-Tin and Jumhureya hospitals, to assess the capacity and explore the potential services of the hospitals as well as to engage the Medical Directors to facilitate the reception of the refugees.

Mr. Ahmed Al Zend, Minister of Justice of the Arab Republic of Egypt, met with UNHCR’s Representative in Egypt, Ms. Elizabeth Tan in early February. During the meeting, Mr. Al Zend called for the convening of a conference on Childhood Statelessness to highlight the suffering of refugees in the Arab region, particularly Syrian children.
