Incoming Somali Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Gamal Mohamed Hassan, visited Dadaab refugee camps and met with various refugee representatives today.

The relocation of people into the new Ifo Extension, which began on 25 July, is continuing. So far, UNHCR and its partners have moved nearly 18,000 refugees into the part of Ifo Extension formerly referred to as Ifo 3.

The number of refugees relocated from Dadaab\'s outskirts to Ifo II, III and Kambioos reaches 37,218.

Since 25 July more than 37,000 Somali refugees in Kenya relocated to Ifo Extension and Kambioos sites in the Dadaab camp complex.

UNHCR is pleased to share that the vast majority of Somali arrivals on the outskirts have been relocated to safety.The current population of IFO 2 West exceeds 40,000 and Ifo 2 East nearly 30,000. Relocation ton Kambioos which started much later is nearly at the 10,000 mark already.

Federal MOH has finally approved vaccination from 6 months to 30 years!!. This will start today (Monday) at reception center for all new arrivals in this age group. (Dollo Ado, Ethiopia)

UNHCR and WFP are distributing emergency food rations and relief supplies to recent arrivals. Water trucking to the new sites is ongoing while all three hospitals in Ifo, Dagahaley and Hagadera camps are providing health care to the refugees. Primary schools are being run by teachers recruited among the refugee population in the camps. UNHCR is working with the Kenyan authorities to urgently deploy more policemen in the camps to enhance security measures for refugees and aid workers alike. Dadaab is the world’s biggest refugee complex, with its sprawling camps hosting more than 463,000 refugees. Over 190,000 of them arrived this year after fleeing insecurity and famine in Somalia.

The Nutrition Survey commenced on Saturday, 29th October, following final training sessions and a pilot study. The first camp being surveyed is Kobe. Staff members from UNHCR, ARRA, GOAL and IMC are involved in gathering the survey data in Kobe.
