To estimate the capacity of government health facilities; estimate the number of Syrian refugees using health facilities across 5 governorates (Irbid, Mafraq, Ramtha, Zarqa and Ajloun; estimate the types of acute and chronic medical conditions for which Syrian patients seek healthcare; and assist the Jordanian MoH, UN and International development partners in better understanding and estimating the healthcare needs of the Syrian refugees and Jordanian host community in order to better invest humanitarian and development resources seeking to improve access to care outside camps.
Needs
Syrian refugees accessing both hospitals and health centres in great numbers therefore attention should be given to needs in both types of facilities. The diseases and ailments which Syrian refugees face are very similar to that of the non-Syrian population, so Jordanian facilities do not require unique or targeted healthcare implements, medications or infrastructure but rather that the facilities would need these elements in greater number in order to serve the Syrian influx.
Main Findings
Utilisation of Jordanian facilities by the refugee population represents a real need on behalf of Syrian individuals and a potential strain on resources for the Jordanian health care system. 8.65% of the total population accessing health facilities in the northern governorates were Syrian refugees.
