Methodology description: | The scoping study will be carried out from May until December 2014. The methods used will include literature review and in-depth semi-structured expert interviews. Information will be gathered by consulting local and international service providers and stakeholders. Participants The aim of the study is to learn more about the situation for service providers and their challenges dealing with SGBV. This aim can be fulfilled without bringing the affected population at risk by interviewing them on this difficult topic. In order to maintain safety and avoid duplication in the data collection, existing information will be used. A lot of assessment and reports have been published recently, which can be used. Service providers from all four countries will be interviewed. In total around 20 interviews will be carried out (around 5 interviews per country). Desk study A literature review on existing information about sexual violence in Syrian refugee communities in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria will be done. This will help to estimate the scope of the problem. The desk study will also help to identify the actors and existing intervention, as well as their evaluations. In addition literature on best practice in the response to survivors of SV will be collected and reviewed. In-depth interviews Around 20 semi-structured expert interviews will be carried out. The questions of the interview guidelines will be modified according to the interview partner. A verbal informed consent will be taken from the interview partners, the interview will be recorded and the data will be kept confidential. Quality insurance and limitations During the whole process general recommendations on data collection in humanitarian context will be followed, special attention will be drawn on ethical and safety recommendations on data collection in the context of gender-based violence (published by the WHO). The results of the study will be based on in-depth interviews and will be complimented by a review on existing information. It will therefore not be representative for all members of the Syrian refugee population, the host communities and service providers. |
