Rapid Needs Assessment - Syrians

Status: Published 25 March 2020 - 26 March 2020
Following the recent worldwide COVID-19 outbreak, The Government of Jordan implemented a range of necessary containment measures and restrictions which have hindered the delivery of aid and cut off households from services and income generating opportunities. This assessment was conducted between March 25 - 26, 2020 via phone survey with 616 households with the aim of understanding the immediate implications of said developments on basic needs as well as entry points for an appropriate response. All people interviewed have been a beneficiary of DRC support since January 2018. Most households had at least 1 person ‘working’ before COVID. For refugees 6% of households said they had savings but of these HHs, 82% said that any savings would last at most one month. The 2 immediate key needs are Food and Cash – with rent and health the next two categories. Households have limited food – only 22% refugee believe they have enough to cover the next two weeks. 44% refugee work in wage employment. When asked to forecast to a month time, the need to cover rent remains the second most urgent need, presumably linked to limited savings capacity. Many Households plan on negotiating with Landlords to either not pay or pay a partial amount, if the situation remains the same.
