541 new arrivals, consisting of 131 families from South Sudan, were registered at the Pagak entry point and relocated to Pugnido 2 camp on 15 January 2016. The refugees were mainly from Upper Nile State and 70% of them were children. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) facilitated the relocation.

UNHCR Gambella took part in inter-agency assessment mission to areas affected by the cross-border raid of 15 April by gunmen which left over 200 people killed and over 21,000 displaced. The mission visited Lare Woreda on 21 April.

The Crown Princess of Denmark, Her Royal Highness Mary Donaldson, visited Tierkidi refugee camp in western Ethiopia, home to nearly 50,000 refugees who fled the conflict in South Sudan.

Relocation of new South Sudanese refugee arrivals from Matar transit centre to Pugnido 2 camp commenced on 25 August 2015 following development of the new camp.

Heavy fighting in South Sudan's Unity and Upper Nile states over the last two months has displaced more than 100,000 people and blocked humanitarian aid deliveries for some 650,000 people as aid organizations were forced to withdraw. Since the beginning of the year, some 60,000 South Sudanese have fled the country, mostly to Sudan (30,000), Ethiopia (15,000) and Uganda (15,000) bringing the total South Sudanese who fled the country since December 2013 to some 555,000, while some 1.5 million are internally displaced in the country.
