As of August 2023, Somalia was host to 36,903 registered refugees and asylum seekers, mainly from Ethiopia and Yemen. Some 739,680 Somali refugees and asylum seekers are also hosted in the neighbouring countries and a further 1.54 million persons internally displaced inside Somalia due to conflict. Over 7,500 Somali refugees have returned to Somalia since January 2020.
