On 3 January 2025, UNHCR Romania launched the Cash for Winter programme. The Cash for Winter programme was launched to support vulnerable refugee households overcome the harsh winter months and the associated seasonal rise in prices (especially in utility bills) and increased protection risks, resulting from this situation. In order to benefit from this programme, households had to meet at least one of the following criteria: one or more family members with disability or serious medical condition; single parent households or elderly head of household with no other adult who is able to work in the family; households with four and more family members. In total, 740 individuals benefited from the Cash for Winter programme, valued at 720 RON (approx. 145 USD) per individual. This assistance package was provided in one instalment to eligible households between January 2025 and March 2025.
