SENS was conducted for South Sudanese refugee settlements at Kharasana and El Meiram in West Kordofan State, Sudan to assess the general health and nutrition status of the refugee population, and formulate workable recommendations for appropriate nutritional and public health interventions. Results indicate critical (>15%) global acute malnutrition (GAM) in both settlements, with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) above emergency levels (>2%). The findings also point to the wider effects of chronic under-funding for the response, especially for WASH, health and livelihoods assistance. The SENS was coordinated by UNHCR, with technical support from the Government of Sudan's Commission for Refugees (COR), the State Ministry of Health, the Government's Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), WFP, UNICEF, Concern Worldwide, Pancare Health, Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) and Global Aid Hand (GAH).
