NEMA Set To Build IDP Camp In Abuja

The National Emergency Management Agency is set to build a camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Revealing this to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the zonal coordinator of NEMA in the FCT, Ishaya Chonoko noted that the enormous challenges of recognising the real displaced persons in the FCT had necessitated the existence of a camp, where some of the displaced persons from the Northeast who found themselves in Abuja will be kept.
Mr Chonoko explained that even though the displaced persons in the FCT had no proper arrangement from the government before coming to settle, his office has visited some of the settlements in Wuse, Karu, Area 1 and even Nyanya to offer some relief materials to them.
He lamented the infiltration of the IDP settlements in the FCT by some miscreants, who specialise in causing harm to these displaced persons and dispossessing them of the relief materials given to them.
Mr Chonoko stated that the proposed camp for the displaced persons in the FCT, which has no site yet, when completed, would assist NEMA to have a proper register of those who were really affected by the insurgency and any natural disaster.
