Kayin State rural department will supply solar power starting from the end of January until August, 2017 to 11,442 houses from 143 villages in five townships of Kayin State, it is learnt.
“There are three types of solar power systems- 30Watts, 45Watts and 60 Watts. The meter charges for 30 Watts will be Ks 300,000 while those for 45 Watts and 60 Watts will be Ks 380,000 and Ks 420,000 respectively,” said U nay Oo, the head of Kayin State rural development department.
“We will sell the solar power on an installment basis. We have to make a down payment of 10 per cent — Ks 30,000 for 30 Watts, Ks 50,000 for 45 Watts and Ks 70,000 for 60 Watts. Then, we must pay the rest in two instalments. Currently, there are already over 100 houses that have paid the second installment.
They must pay the rest when the power line reaches the village,” he added. Twenty-three villagers from Hpa-an, 11 from Hlaingbwe, 73 from Kawkkareik, 29 from Kya-in-Seikkyi and seven villagers from Thandaunggyi townships are on the list to buy solar power in Kayin State. The religious edifices, schools and rural health centers do not need to pay the money for their electricity.
