The Thai tripartite committee, which includes employers, workers and government representatives in Thailand decided on January 17 to add from 5 to 22 baht to the minimum wage, according to the Migrant Workers Rights Network (MWRN) Thursday.

“The increase rates are different from the previous time. Phuket, Chonburi and other beach areas will receive at least 330 baht a day because they have a lot of tourist zones and construction sites,” U Aung Kyaw said.

All workers from the regions of Bangkok, Thonburi, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pahtum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon and Chachoengsao will receive 325 baht as the second highest minimum daily wage.
U Aung Kyaw added that all workers, including foreign workers, will benefit from the raise.

Currently, over 10,000 Myanmar workers depart for Thailand monthly due to higher wages, and an estimated four million Myanmar migrant workers live and work in Thailand.
