Bago Regional Government has announced that they will build a wholesale market on 15.13 acres of land in Kali (Tetkalay) village, in Bago Region.
Earlier this month, the government signed a MoU to build the new market that will be built by Grand Style Company. The government will invest K14 billion for the wholesale market, and the building is planned to be built two stories tall.
“The wholesale market will include restaurants, a hotel, highway bus station, smaller bus stations and bank branches. It will run 24/7 creating jobs opportunities for the residents in nearby villages,”said U Win Thein, Chief Minister of Bago Region.
“We plan to build this market to meet the basic infrastructure needs for traffic congestion, a dense population, and parking lots’’he added.
Upon the completion of the wholesale market, freight trucks carrying goods from other cities such as Myawady, Mandalay and Yangon, will not be allowed to enter into Bago and instead freight must be transported to cities such as Bago, Thanutpin and Kawa using smaller vehicles.
The city of Bago is located along one of Myanmar’s main transportation routes from Yangon-Mandalay and Yangon-Mawlamine. “Because of this it is receiving a lot of interest from foreign investors,”U Win Thien said.
