Maban, South Sudan [ACTED News] – Radio Salaam, the first community radio in the Maban county refugee camps officially went on air on 16th September 2013. Radio Salaam is independently operated by a group of youth from refugee and host community trained by ACTED. The project aims to provide new skills and psychosocial activities while offering a new way to convey important camp information, provide entertainment, and build good relationship between the refugee and the host community. The station broadcasts daily in four local languages from 7 AM to 9 PM. Radio manager Chol Tor said “It’s the first time there has ever been a radio in Maban so everyone is really proud. Everyone is excited for their voices to be heard.”
