The eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) remains highly unstable, with ongoing displacement and insecurity. UNHCR and partners are preparing for potential new refugee influxes, as nearly 80,000 people have fled to neighboring countries this year. Over 10,000 in South Kivu and 80,000 in North Kivu have returned to areas where they were previously staying. The DRC government and humanitarian partners launched a $2.54 billion 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan to aid 11 million people, including 7.8 million internally displaced. Regional efforts by EAC and SADC aim to restore peace and security.
