The Hungarian Red Cross was established in 1881. It was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1882. Since 1921 it has been a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. It carries out its activities on the basis of the four Geneva Conventions of 1949, “For the protection of the victims of war”, to which the Republic of Hungary is party. The activities of the Hungarian Red Cross are based on the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The Hungarian Reformed Church Aid was founded in 2006 by the Hungarian Reformed Church Synod. The primary aim of the organization was initially the establishment and improvement of institutions but in response to the increased needs we’re doing traditional relief work as well. The Hungarian Reformed Church Aid was among the first organization to mobilise its staff and volunteers to provide immediate assistance to those fleeing Ukraine. Our foundation has been helping refugees with food, hygiene kits, information, spiritual support and shelter. Charity Service staff and volunteers have so far provided assistance in 29 locations across the country.
