A newly opened settlement in Imvepi, Arua district, began receiving new arrivals from South Sudan on 21 February.

UNHCR continues to receive refugees from South Sudan through the Kenya – South Sudan border at Nadapal Transit centre

In January 2017, a total of 1,116 new arrival from South Sudan were received at Nadapal before being transferred to Kakuma reception centre.

The total number of refugees in Nduta Camp in Tanzania is already over 106,000 and camp facilities are overstretched. More land is needed very soon to host incoming Burundian refugees. Last week's average of daily arrivals into Tanzania was 724 refugees per day.

The Tanzanian Government has revoked the Refugee (Declaration) Notice No. 54 granting prima facie refugee status to asylum-seekers from Burundi. Detailed modalities under which the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) will be conducted for individuals fleeing Burundi have yet to be communicated. Meanwhile the average daily new arrivals’ figure has increased to 727 individuals (during 20 January and 2 February).

Over 305,000 South Sudanese refugees have fled to Sudan since the start of the conflict, with nearly 11,000 refugees arriving in January.

UNHCR Egypt, in coordination with the Government of Egypt, inaugurated the latest “Schoolyard for All” projects implemented in 'Amr Ibn El As' and 'Omar Ibn el Khattab' Schools in Sheikh Zayed City. The project aims to create child-friendly spaces, allowing local ‪‎Egyptian and refugee school children the chance to play together in a safe environment and foster a better educational atmosphere.

On the January 22, 2017 UNHCR in collaboration with Caritas Alexandria celebrated the successful livelihood projects in Alexandria at the Jesuit Cultural Center as part of UNHCR Egypt’s livelihood program.
