On July 10, the HRC publicly announced that it stopped covering the cost of secondary health care due to lack of funding. This will have a severe impact on UNHCR and partner agencies. While agencies will continue to shoulder most of the costs of humanitarian assistance, current funding levels do not permit these agencies from filling in for all coverage previously provided by the HRC. On 3 June 2012, the Representative of UNHCR in Mauritania, the Governor of Hodh el Charghi and the National Coordinator visited the village of Aghor and met with the technicians in preparation to the creation of a new refugee camp. This village is located 65 km away from the border, 70 km away from Bassikounou and 35 km away from Bassikounou. UNHCR had already a camp in this village in the 1990’s. Following this mission, a consensus was reached on the location of the new refugee camp and thus UNHCR submitted an official request to the Government to create a new camp in Aghor. Lebanon - The first centralized distribution in Akkar started in June through various local sites spread throughout the North, including Rama’s mukhtar Ali Beddawi’s residence, the Mahad El Kabess community centre in Halba, Markaz el Saade centre in Kawashra and Machata Hammoud primary school. UNICEF, in collaboration with partners and the Ministry of Education, began school-based summer holiday remedial education classes on 17 June, targeting 5,500 vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian children in 15 directorates. UNICEF partner Save the Children International is providing recreational activities and psychosocial support in 40 public schools to complement these activities.
