As greater numbers of Syrians approach UNHCR Jordan for registration, an accelerated registration procedure has been rolled out to ensure that those who want and need protection are responded to as quickly as possible.

Ethiopia, April 10 (UNHCR) – Chinese actress Yao Chen has concluded her first visit to Africa as UNHCR\'s honorary patron for China by hailing the courage of Somali refugees and the generosity of their hosts in Jijiga and Dollo Ado, Ethiopia.

Humanitarian partners are concentrating efforts to encourage parents to send their children to school during their displacement. Tools include individual counselling at registration at UNHCR, along with use of SMS to maintain sustained encouragement.

UNHCR and partners are currently assessing and locating additional primary health care centers in north Lebanon to increase the health care coverage of Syrians dispersed around the area.

UN Partners and the Government of Jordan are currently conducting a rapid joint needs assessment in an effort to ascertain a better understanding of vulnerabilities within Syrian community in Jordan. Assessment is being conducted in areas with high concentrations of Syrians such as Amman, Ramtha and Mafraq.

UNHCR Implementing Partner Caritas has carried out an NFI distribution in Mafraq for 388 individuals and a smaller number in Karak. Distribution included mattresses, blankets, kitchen sets, stoves for example.

UNHCR implementing partner JHAS has carried out three Non-Food Items distribution in recent days in Ma\'an, Zarqa and Amman. The distribution was for 420 individuals, including 137 families.

Une campagne de vaccination des réfugiés de Abala, Kizamou, Miel, et Tigzefan a été conduite par le ministre de la Santé du 24 au 27 février 2012. 561 enfants âgés de 0 à 59 mois ont reçu le vaccin contre la Polio et 338 ont reçu celui contre la rougeole. 12 enfants ont reçu le vaccin BCG, 30 autres ont reçu le pentavalent (Diphtérie, Tétanos, la coqueluche, l’hépatite B et H. et le vaccin Influenza) et 10 ont reçu le vaccin contre la fièvre jaune. En plus de cela, 74 enfants ont reçu de la vitamine A et 84 femmes enceintes ont reçu le vaccin VAT (Tetanos).

The Ramtha Transit Facility is increasingly under pressure as the number of individuals and families crossing the border illegally continues to rise. Figures for Ramtha have now exceeded 1,000 individuals with temporary shelters erected on-site. UNHCR is working closely with the Government of Jordan to identify the best manner in which to ensure protection and delivery of assistance in a timely and effective manner.
