  • On 11 August Kakuma was inundated with torrential rains which caused flooding in various parts of the camp and surrounding areas. Many refugee shelters were destroyed and dykes and river banks were severely eroded in a number of locations placing refugees and humanitarian workers at risk. A vehicle ferrying passengers from Lokichoggio to Kakuma was washed away while trying to cross a seasonal river in Turkana West District, and 8 people lost their lives; it is believed that some among the dead were Sudanese on their way to Kakuma to seek asylum.
