There are also concentrations of displaced Syrians residing in other parts of Lebanon. UNHCR’s latest estimates with partners indicate that there are between 3,000-4,500 persons in need in the eastern Lebanon and several hundred in Beirut and areas further south. They are assisted by local NGOs, municipalities, and other partners. The Government of Japan has confirmed in writing a contribution of USD 1,000,000 to UNHCR for \"Emergency Grant Aid to refugees and IDPs affected by the political instability in the Syrian Arab Republic\". Jordan welcomed the visit of UN Under Secretary General Valerie Amos, who is on a regional tour regarding the Syrian situation. The UNSG met with the Government of Jordan, along with UN agencies who are responding to the current unrest and discussed coordination mechanisms. Jordan attended the international \"Friends of Syria\" conference in Tunisia on the unrest in Syria. Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh insisted that the Kingdom does not support foreign military intervention and explained to Jordanian Senators that “Jordan does not interfere in any country’s affairs. It supports Arab consensus on Syria and rejects military intervention in the country.\\\" However the Foreign Minister also stressed that while the Jordanian Ambassador to Syrian remains in Damascus, does not imply that the Kingdom is satisfied with developments on the ground, and rejects the use of violence.highlight 25 Feb 2012 (12 years ago)
