Mr. Amin Awad, MENA Bureau Director visited Egypt early December. During his visit, he met with government officials, toured the Zamalek registration centre and visited UNHCR projects in Alexandria.

The first round of anti-polio campaign took place from 19 to 22 April 2015. Around 15,469,098 children under 5 were vaccinated during the campaign both from the host and refugee communities.

UNHCR participated in a conference organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to celebrate the “International Volunteer Day on 16th December 2015. UNHCR was part of a discussion panel with other UN agencies (UNV, UNDP and UNFPA) as well as different institutions and local NGOs working with volunteers to talk about obstacles and challenges they face.

Following the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women and "Orange Your World" Campaign, the dome at Cairo University was lit in orange on December 2nd in the spirit of a future free of violence against women.

On Sunday 28th of February, Representatives from the Embassy of Canada to Egypt visited the Alexandria Field Office for a briefing on the office’s activities.

UNHCR supplied 2 Mammogram equipment to MOH public hospitals in Alexandria according to the MOU between the MOH and UNHCR. Undersecretary of MOH in Alexandria Dr. Magdy Hegazy announced that the training of doctors and technicians at the hospital will begin in a few days in order could start receiving women who wish to perform an early breast cancer detection examination.

The Syrian community schools in Egypt celebrated the Arab Teacher’s Day at the Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) Opera House. The event was organized by Syria El Ghad educational committee. Many of the organizations working with Syrian refugees in Egypt attended the celebration, including UNHCR, Stars St. Andrews, PSTIC, among others. Syrian children from different community schools across Egypt showcased a variety of theatrical and singing performances.
