6 Strategic Pillars of the Route-Based Approach: Ensuring Protection and Respect for the Rights of Refugees and Migrants Along Key Routes

Cross-Cutting Enablers of the Route-Based Approach

Interventions in relation to these pillars and enablers, along routes, aim to:
  1. Ensure rescue operations at sea and land, providing protection-sensitive entry procedures and safe disembarkation.
  2. Strengthen asylum capacity and manage mixed movements, early identification and referral of special needs cases.
  3. Create safe alternatives to dangerous journeys, providing early international protection and access to services.
  4. Promote fair national asylum systems, implement humane returns, and lawful migration channels to reduce dangerous journeys and unnecessary asylum applications.
  5. Enhance data collection and analysis for evidence-based decision-making and outreach.
