An introduction to MADE51 - from Refugee Communities to Global Markets - Driving Economic Inclusion Through the Artisan Sector: As refugees flee, they often carry very little, but they do carry their skills and heritage. The artisan sector offers high potential for impact as it is worth over $752.2BN USD each year and represents the second-largest source of employment in low- and middle-income countries, which is also where 75% of refugees are hosted. MADE51 is an initiative launched by the UN Refugee Agency with the aim of driving economic inclusion and bringing refugee craftsmanship to the world. MADE51 connects strong refugee artisan groups with experienced social enterprises in their host countries, who then work together to develop unique, market-ready products.
