The Syria crisis, now in its 14th year as of March 2024, has led to an escalating humanitarian emergency, with 16.7 million people in need of aid—a 9% increase from the previous year. The country faces unpredictable security challenges and a deteriorating economy. Hostilities in Lebanon since September 23 have intensified the crisis, driving sudden displacement as families cross from Lebanon into Syria. In response, UNHCR is ramping up its efforts, providing protection and assistance to refugees, asylum-seekers, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, stateless individuals, and host communities, focusing on the most vulnerable needs across these groups.
