Across Africa, millions of refugees and displaced people, many of them young and ready to contribute, face significant barriers to employment. Although national policies often allow refugees to work, complex procedures, unclear regulations, and limited support make access to jobs extremely difficult. Employers who want to hire refugees also face legal uncertainties and bureaucratic challenges. To address the gap between policy and practice, Amahoro Coalition, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, presents the Pathways to Employment series. This initiative examines refugee employment across African countries, exploring legal frameworks, administrative processes, employer challenges, and ways to strengthen collaboration.
