Afar Region is among the areas most affected by both natural and man-made disasters, resulting in widespread protection risks and concerns within affected communities. Prior to November 2020, the region was already experiencing significant internal displacement due to the longstanding Afar–Issa conflict along the Afar–Somali border. The subsequent expansion of the Tigray conflict into Afar further displaced large numbers of people, particularly pastoralist communities.
