This paper analyses trends in Afghan asylum applications and recognition rates in EU+ countries between January 2021 to March 2026. For the purposes of this paper, EU+ refers to European Union Member States, plus Norway and Switzerland. The analysis examines changes in the volume and profile of Afghan applicants- including children, women and girls, and unaccompanied children – as well as trends in first-instance asylum decisions and recognition rates in EU+ countries.
