Mogadishu, 22 January 2016- The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira strongly condemns the attack by terrorist group Al Shabaab, on a beachfront restaurant at Liddo beach in Mogadishu, last night.
The heinous attack targeted innocent Somali citizens including children and business owners, in a deliberate attempt to cause harm and destruction.
“The attack by Al Shabaab further attests to their desire to destroy Somalia and curtail any progress. This is has been demonstrated through targeted and brazen attacks at business establishments in Mogadishu and harmless citizens. We must not be cowed by the enemies of growth and development in Somalia and I call upon all Somalis people to rise beyond the losses and destruction and continue to rebuild the country,” said Ambassador Madeira.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed in the senseless attack and commiserates with those injured.
