Senegalese President Macky Sall has urged West African countries to reinforce intelligence sharing mechanisms and harmonize the war against terrorism in the region.

Speaking to Xinhua in an interview during the recently concluded African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Sall revealed that a regional summit bringing together Economic Community of West African States and the Economic Community of Central African States will be held soon, followed with a tripartite meeting between Africa, China and France to consolidate efforts in the fight against terrorism.

While acknowledging that terrorism had become a daily challenge for Africa, Sall said the continent should work for its own security.

"Already, in all African peacekeeping missions, our countries have been making both military and material contributions. And in each country, there are visible efforts to guarantee security and in case of a problem, to react strongly. Unfortunately, it is a global problem but we are in the process of fighting the phenomenon," he said.

He noted that in China's aid that was promised during last year's Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Johannesburg, there was a security dimension.

"China promised to help African countries. It was not on the basis of country to country, but certainly we shall look at this in coming months during a tripartite meeting between Africa, China and France in Dakar on the modalities of reinforcing this cooperation," he said. Endit
