Wife of the president, Aisha Buhari has said that she will focus on projects that is geared towards promoting the health and well-being of women and girls in internally displaced (IDP) camps across the country.

The First Lady disclosed this at the first Daily Trust women summit and exhibition held in Abuja on Thursday, March 10.

Mrs Buhari who was represented by the the wife of the Zamfara state governor, Asma’u Yari lamented the state of women and girls in resettlement camps in various parts of Nigeria.

“As we celebrate the social, economic and political achievements of women, we should also be aware that progress is slowed down in many places across the world. Urgent action is needed to accelerate gender parity.

“I will like to call on everyone to join hands with me in supporting women and children of IDPs. It is saddening and heartbreaking for little or what they know nothing about.

“The health and welfare of IDPs will be my major priority until I see that they are resettled to a conducive environment and society,” she said.

In her remarks, the remarks, wife of the Senate president, Toyin Saraki has called on Nigerian women to take their place in the society.

She noted that for women to take their place in society, there is an urgent need for parents to educate their daughters.

The event featured keynote address by the minister of women affairs, Aisha Mohammed, Senator Khairat Gwadabe, had in attendance wives of Zamfara, Kaduna and Niger state governors among other dignities.
