The All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) Secretary Sonny, told Mizzima on September 9 that they were having discussions with the Karen state government to open a liaison office in Myawaddy town in Karen state.

“We came here to discuss with the Karen state government for opening a liaison office in Myawaddy as the first step. We met political groups, 88-Generation students and some political parties. Things are going on well,” he added.

Opening an ABSDF liaison office in Myawaddy was one of the points agreed upon between the state government and ABSDF on August 5. The agreement proposes further discussions at union level and opening up more liaison offices.

Secretary Sonny said that they are explaining their political process to other political groups and they will cooperate with these forces as well as government officials in the future.

Currently, the ABSDF is disseminating their political program to political parties, alliance groups, student groups and youth forces, and they would try to brief civil society organizations too, he added. Than Ke, Chairman of the ABSDF North area visited Myawaddy for the debriefing.

The peace talks held at the Myanmar Peace Center (MPC), Kamayut Township Yangon in August 2013 was attended by Chairman Than Ke, Vice-Chairman Myo Win, five delegates from ABSDF North and five delegates from ABSDF West (India). On the government side, the peace talk was attended by Presidential Office Minister Aung Min, officials and military strategic commanders.

The ABSDF and the government’s Union Peace Making Group signed the state-level peace agreement on August 5, bringing the peace talks one step closer to union level peace agreement.
