Thailand allocates 300 million Baht to promote border trade

BANGKOK, July 15 (Bernama) -- Thailand is spending 300 million baht to promote and develop trade at five border checkpoints bordering Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.
The five are the first of 12 locations that Thailand planned to develop to boost border trade and increase trade activities with the implementation of the Asean Economic Community next year, says Bureau of Budget Director Somsak Chotrattanasiri.
The six border checkpoints are Padang Besar-Sadao in Songkhla province which borders Malaysia, Mae Sot border of Tak province on the Thai-Myanmar border, Poipet-Klong Leuk in Sa Kaeo and Khlong Yai in Trat at the Thai-Cambodian border and Mukdarharn at the Thai-Laos border.
The budget would be initially used for infrastructure and logistics to facilitate and speed-up entry-exit traffic flow for business operators, such as the highway from the Hatyai-Sadoa district of Songklha.
The project would be started in December.
