Agriculture sector to be improved under five-year development plan

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation will improve the country’s agriculture industry under its five-year development plan, Union Minister Dr Aung Thu said in his opening remarks at the recent meeting in Nay Pyi Taw.

To reach the ministry’s goal to enhance the farming industry, the ministry will implement the agriculture development strategy (ADS) in collaboration with its development partners.

The Food and Agriculture organization, the Asian Development Bank and the Livelihoods and Food Security Trust Fund will make investment in the sector with technical supports to help produce high-quality nourishing food under safety rules and standard of the FDA.

During the Monday meeting, Mr Francesco Goletti from the ADB clarified the progress of the ADS and future arrangements, investment plans, continuous assessment of the project and future expectation.

Investment opportunities and future cooperation in farming sector were also be discussed by the delegates from the FAO.

The major aim of the project is to improve socio-economic status of rural community by promoting involvement of farmers operating small-and medium-scaled agribusiness and landless growers.
