Suu Vocational Institute, which will provide vocational training for people lacking formal education, opened in Hlaing Thayar Township on Tuesday.

“All the vocational training will follow State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s instructions. Myanmar needs more vocational education because most people do not get degrees so they need vocational education to live better. The institute started implementing our leader’s guidelines,” said U Aung Lay Nwe, coordinator of the NLD Education Network.

All training provided by the institute will be free, and no prior education is required to apply to the institute.

NLD Education Network started to run education centres called Mother House schools in 2011. Suu Institute is the second school opened in Hlaing Thayar Township by the NLD Education Network. The first one, a Mother House school, opened in 2011.

The NLD Education Network will directly manage Suu Vocational Institute. People aged 17 and up can apply for training, and teachers currently working at Mother House centres will teach at the institute.

Local donors provided the land and Japan contributed to the building of the institute. The building cost US$100,000 and was built over seven months.
