The Kayah State Chief Minister said his government wants to develop the Kayah State, which has slow economic development due to lack of technological development, via the development of small and medium (SME) enterprises.

The State Chief Minister L Phaung Sho said electricity, road and communications have been improving in the state but the government will focus on the slow development of other economic sectors.

He made the remarks during a workshop on the economic development of small and medium enterprises, which was held at the State Hall in Loikaw, Kayah State on March 12 and 13.

The Kayah State has a low population, enough electricity, and a good potential for tourism development. Sixty-five percent of the businesses are agricultural businesses and rice and maize are the main products of the state.

The Kayah State governmental organizations and the civil society organizations and entrepreneurs from the state attended the workshop.

The director-general and officials from the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection (headquarters) and other experts discussed the drafting of a roadmap for the Kayah State's SME development during the workshop on March 12 and 13.
