A project to build a technical school in South Dagon Township, Yangon Region, has been approved and its funding will be included in next year’s budget request, a regional legislator has said.

U Aye Naing, who represents South Dagon in the Pyithu Hluttaw (lower house), said the vocational school would give young people the skills they need to get jobs in the township’s four industrial zones. “Skilled youths would have more job opportunities,” he said.He added that construction of the school, which would be located on 14 acres at the intersection of Hlawgar Road and Gayunar Road in the township’s 15th Ward, would begin at the end of this year if the hluttaw approves the budget.

U Myo Thein Gyi said the regional government would draft a master plan to build classrooms, workshop areas, dorms and servants quarters at the school.

Once the land is formally donated to the Department of Technology and Vocational Training, the budget for the building, staff and teaching materials would be requested for each fiscal year.
