The United Nations Mission in South Sudan confirmed Friday two UNMISS Indian Battalion troops were killed in action in Akobo, Jonglei state.
UNMISS conducted an aerial assessment to Akobo Town this morning following reports of fighting and an attack on the UNMISS compound on Thursday.
UNMISS also said one soldier was injured during the operation and has been transported to the Mission’s medical facility in Malakal.
In a statement, UNMISS condemned the violence that occurred in Akobo and continues in other parts of the country.
The mission calls on all parties to the crisis to refrain from further violence and seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
