YAMBIO, 14 August, 2015 [Gurtong] – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) country representative Ahmed Warsame told the press that Western Equatoria State is one of the states in the country that are hosting several refugees who have fled their homes as a result of the conflict.

The official spoke when he presided over the donation of two vehicles to the Western Equatoria Ministry of Education in Yambio and the Ezo County police on Wednesday.

The motor vehicles will facilitate transportation for efficient services delivery within the ministry and police service in Ezo County.

“I want to extend our appreciation to the state government and the people of Western Equatoria for sharing their resources with their fellow countrymen and making them feel at home during these difficult moments. Your generosity is indeed commendable”, said Warsame.

He added that the donation is part of efforts to strengthen the working relationship between UNHCR and the various ministries in the state as they seek to protect and improve lives of refugees.

He affirmed UNHCR’s continued support in the state.

The State Minister of Education Science and Technology Pia Michael hailed the UN body for its continued support, saying the latest support will improve delivery of education and security in the state.

“I am very happy today to receive a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser from UNHCR as their support to us in managing and delivering education to our children, especially those in the two refugee camps in Ezo and Yambio counties”, he said.

He added that this is an additional effort to boost the supervision and delivery of learning materials in schools across the state.
