  • The number of those at Ramtha Transit facility is approximately 400.The increase in numbers can be attributable to a number of factors including a rise in the numbers of those crossing the border into Jordan illegally (that is those who have exited illegally) due to reported increase in violent unrest in Dara\'a, on the Syrian side of the border. Nonetheless, the number has remained stable.

  • UNHCR Implementing Partner Caritas has carried out an NFI distribution in Mafraq for 388 individuals and a smaller number in Karak. Distribution included mattresses, blankets, kitchen sets, stoves for example.

  • UN Partners and the Government of Jordan are currently conducting a rapid joint needs assessment in an effort to ascertain a better understanding of vulnerabilities within Syrian community in Jordan. Assessment is being conducted in areas with high concentrations of Syrians such as Amman, Ramtha and Mafraq.

  • UNHCR Jordan has recorded the highest number of registrations in one month in its history, with 4,880 Syrian individuals registered since April 1st. This figure surpasses numbers registered at height of Iraqi crisis in 2007. UNHCR Representative, Andrew Harper, thanked his team for their tireless efforts.

  • Jordan- The first Mafraq geographical coordination meeting took place today, following last week's successful Ramtha geographical coordination meeting. The Geographical meetings are part of an effort to ensure effective coordination on the ground beyond the capital, in areas with large Syrian populations. Attendees include officials from Government of Jordan, local governorate, community based organisations along with national and international Agencies, and NGOs.

  • UNICEF, in collaboration with partners and the Ministry of Education, began school-based summer holiday remedial education classes on 17 June, targeting 5,500 vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian children in 15 directorates. UNICEF partner Save the Children International is providing recreational activities and psychosocial support in 40 public schools to complement these activities. UNICEF has provided psychosocial support to over 6,000 vulnerable Syrian children and family members since the response began.
