The second geographical coordination meeting took place today at Ramtha, with the Regional Refugee Coordinator, Panos Moumtiz in attendance. The meeting was predominantly technical in focus, with a discussion taking place on the challenges faced by the community in Ramtha. Water has emerged as a key challenge, as the presence of the Bashabshe, Cyber City and the King Abdullah Park site place increasing pressure on the ability of the local governorate to deliver water to both the host community and the facilities. Reiterating the words of UNHCR Representative, Andrew Harper, it is critical that host communities receive support from donors.

Jordan - Families moved today from the Bashabshe facility to the newly renovated Cyber City building in Ramtha. Work is also continuing on the King Abdullah Park site.

Jordan - WFP have begun the distribution of food packages to vulnerable Syrians through implementing partners JHCO and the Jordanian Red Crescent.

Jordan - To date, CARE International has provided 202 Syrian Heads of Households (HH) with emergency cash assistance, of which 31 HH were female. The aim of the facility is to address urgent needs, including: costs for newly arrived refugees waiting for assessment and inclusion in other assistance packages, protection cases, those living in unsafe housing or threatened with eviction, legal support, urgent medical costs not covered by health providers. The amount provided to each case ranges from $350 - $750. The average amount is $400.

UNICEF, in collaboration with partners and the Ministry of Education, began school-based summer holiday remedial education classes on 17 June, targeting 5,500 vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian children in 15 directorates. UNICEF partner Save the Children International is providing recreational activities and psychosocial support in 40 public schools to complement these activities. UNICEF has provided psychosocial support to over 6,000 vulnerable Syrian children and family members since the response began.

In collaboration with the office of the sub Governor of Ramtha, JHAS and JHCO, King Abdullah Park has been opened.

Jordan - Following the spike in the number of displaced Syrians in Stadium transit facility, UNICEF mobilised 20 portable latrines within 24 hours. These latrines were organised to help meet the urgent needs of the nearly 2,000 people now at the facility.

Jordan - Preparation work on Za'atri site in Mafraq is underway as part of contingency planning by UNHCR and JHCO. UNICEF is also working on the WASH infrastructure.

Jordan - 2,222 Syrians crossing to safety and received at Za’atri on the night and early morning of August 23-24 breaking previous record by 77%.

Jordan - 2,184 Syrian refugees arrived last night, very nearly equaling the record number of August 24.
