Escalating violence and siege conditions in northern Mali, particularly around Léré and surrounding areas, have triggered new forced displacement toward Mauritania. Between 5 and 11 November, approximately 1,171 refugees (167 households) crossed into Mauritania through official and non-official border points, bringing total arrivals since late October to around 2,526 refugees (521 households). The population is composed of vulnerable profiles, 69% children and 20% adult women, with most household’s female-headed and a number of unaccompanied and separated children. New arrivals report fleeing armed attacks, intimidation, and severe movement restrictions towards Mauritania, arriving in precarious conditions with limited access to shelter, food, and essential services. Joint UNHCR–Government registration, along with UNHCR and partner assistance and relocation efforts, are ongoing to provide protection and urgent support.
