Insecurity in the Sahel and northern Nigeria increased pressure on Benin’s borders, with 8,400 refugees registered this year, while spillover insecurity drove internal displacement. By June, Benin hosted 85,200 displaced people, including 42,000 refugees and asylum-seekers.
