Sudanese arrivals have increased markedly in recent years, accounting for 12% of arrivals to Mediterranean Europe in the first quarter of 2026 alone. Adopting a route-based approach, the report aims to provide a deeper understanding of who Sudanese arrivals in Europe are and the factors driving onward movement despite the risks involved. It draws on arrivals data, 173 protection monitoring interviews in South-Eastern Europe (January 2025 – July 2026) and focus group discussions in Greece, Italy and Spain.
