Nigeria Attacks Kill 8 People Before Deadline to End Insurgency

Eight people were killed in assaults on villages in the northeast Nigeria, the home ground of a Boko Haram Islamist insurgency the president has vowed to end this month.
The attackers arrived on motorbikes and bicycles on Sunday afternoon in Magari, a village in Borno state, firing shots and setting homes on fire, said a resident of the area, Mallam Ibrahim Abubakam, by phone. He saw three corpses and said another five people are still missing.
The nearby town of Warawara was also attacked, leaving five people dead, said resident Ismail Azeez.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered security forces to drive out Boko Haram fighters from their territory by the end of 2015.
