Acting Foreign Minister receives UNHCR resident representative

The Acting Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, B. Elias Shoniyin, on Tuesday, October 13, received in audience, the new Resident Representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) accredited to Liberia, Ms. Ndeye Ndiougue Ndour, when she paid him a courtesy call.

Madam Ndiougue Ndour replaces Mr. Rhassim Diagne as the agency's new Resident Representative. She hails from the Republic of Senegal. During their meeting at the Foreign Ministry on Capitol Hill, the two officials briefly exchanged views on the incoming Representative's assignment in Liberia.

Receiving the UNHCR Representative's nomination letter, Acting Foreign Minister Shoniyin congratulated her on behalf of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Government for her preferment. "We are very pleased that you accepted your nomination to come to Liberia and Madam President herself, who is a woman would be happy to meet you."

The Acting Minister expressed confidence that the new UNHCR Resident Representative has come with valuable experiences to serve in Liberia, further assuring her of his government's fullest support and cooperation to make her stay in Liberia productive.

Earlier, Madam Ndour thanked Acting Minister Shoniyin and the Government and People of Liberia for the warm reception accorded her since her arrival. She assured Liberia of her commitment to continually work with the Government in making her call of duty successful.

The ceremony was attended by Senior Ambassador-at-large, Marcus Kofa, Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs Boakai N. Kanneh and Assistant Minister for International Organizations Affairs Therry S. Genesis.-Press Release
