KNU Joint Secretary Padoh Saw Eh Nar stated that land measuring of the KNU 4th brigade region in Myeik/Dawei district will commence from the start of January to February, in order for the lands to be officially recognized by Myanmar government.

The lands that will be measured are the low land and high land farms that have ownership but no land title deeds. Additionally, the wildlife protected areas, national parks, forestry and virgin lands will also be re-measured.
Preparation for the land measuring exercise is under way in order for the process to start as soon as possible. The land measuring will initially be conducted in KNU controlled areas and the measuring of the remaining regions will be discussed with the responsible government authorities during the next phase.

KNU from Myeik/Dawei district said that they have prepared technicians for measuring the land and also obtained essential land measuring equipment. A local villager from Katarakee village, Myitta sub-township in Tanintharyi division said, “I’ve heard from some of the villagers that KNU will come and conduct a land measuring for us. It is good for us as this will give us a guarantee that our land will be officially documented.” However, she continued to say that the villagers have not been formally informed about the land measuring exercise by the KNU yet.

Four townships in Myeik/Dawei district are under KNU control and most of the local people in those townships earn their livelihood as farmers.
