Primary and middle schools registering new students for the 2014-2015 school year will no longer request school fees according to the Ministry of Education.
Under instruction from the ministry, all basic schools will no longer request school fees, nor sell exercise books, notebooks, and student’s guides. They must only collect the approved fee for high school students.
“In the last week of May every year we approve school registration week. All basic schools in the whole country have to accept registration in that week. However, we have an opening ceremony on the 28th, so instead of that, the date had been changed to 15th of May. Registration would also be able to do in school-registration-week like others,” said War War San, principal of Yankin Teacher Training College Practicing School.
Complaints concerning school fees can be sent to the Ministry of Education, according to a responsible person from the ministry.
No (1) Basic Education High School, in Yangon’s Dagon Township, will finish registration for 2014-2015 school year on May 24.
