Japan supports post-primary school in Hpa-an

Hpa-an, 23 July—The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project, GGP Scheme, has extended an assistance of US $222,913 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Hpa-an No.2 Post Primary School in Hpa-an Township, Kayin State.”

Mr. Tateshi Higuchi,Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, and U Than Mya, Chairman of Hpa-an No.2 Post-Primary School Construction Committee, signed the grant contract on July 18, 2014.

Hpa-an Basic Education Post Primary School No.2 was opened in 1960.One school building, made of wooden structure, was built in 1980, but has been damaged over the years by floods.

Under such circumstances,the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a 180-feet by 30-feet one-storey RCC building and a 120-feet by 30-feet one-storey RCC building,toilets and school furniture for the No.2 Post-Primary School in Hpa-an Township through its GGP Scheme.This project will directly benefit about 530 students with a better learning and sanitation environment.

Japan has conducted 689 various grassroots projects in Myanmar under this GGP scheme since 1993.
